The Mwami's Activities

Thirtheenth Anniversary of Mwami Mwenda Bantu Kaneranera

Godefroid Munongo Jr.

On July 4, 2011, the Mwami of the Bayeke, Mwenda Bantu Kaneranera Godefroid Munongo Jr. celebrated his thirteen-year reign on the throne of M’siri.

He continues his duties in the Senate and has remained engaged in many other projects, of which we offer some highlights.

With the National Alliance of Traditional Authorities in the Congo, ANATC in acronym, Mwami Mwenda Bantu has promoted several projects that are very promising. One that shows great potential is the savings bank which will enable citizens who do business and/or want to save, to finally place their money in a bank and one day access micro loans, a system that has proven effective in countries such as Bangladesh.

With regard to development projects, the Mwami of the Bayeke is a participant and speaker, as representative of African kings, at the Conference for Development in Africa that the former Italian Prime Minister and scholar Romano Prodi initiated in 2010. The task force aims to integrate all levels of society in 53 African countries at the inter-state and intra-state levels to promote sustainable development and peace in Africa.

Locally, the Mwami of the Bayeke maintains a busy schedule that takes him all over the country in efforts to raise awareness of ANATC activities. Indeed, only the harmonization of rural projects will lead to sustainable development of the Congo.

Our respective Congolese cultures, victims of globalization, must overcome huge challenges and reverse the bitter erosion that they suffer. The world is smaller and education for our Yeke and Katangese youth remains in the eyes of Mwami Mwenda Bantu a priority for a bright future. Without a decent education, our young people are condemned to live a hard life, and be unable to improve their socio-economic status.

Mwami Mwenda Bantu has a vision of food self-sufficiency for Katanga. Through the efforts and activities of the agro-pastoral Garanganze Grouping (DAPAG in acronym), he consults with the Bayeke on the feasibility of food products integration and the opening of rural markets. This multi-faceted program aims to redevelop the agricultural sector, which is neglected in Katanga, in favor of the mining sector.

Like his predecessors, Mwami Mwenda Bantu has plans for the Kingdom of Bayeke and Katanga. However, he recognizes that Garanganze, M’siri’s erstwhile empire, can achieve its true potential if the other realms of Katanga, including communities, districts, cities and other provinces of the Congo coalesce for the development of the country.

Mwami Mwenda Bantu remains convinced that our best days are before us, and that is why he works tirelessly to achieve these goals.

In July 2013, Mwami Mwenda Bantu Kaneranera Godefroid Munongo Jr. will celebrate fifteen years on the throne of M'Siri. God bless him in his endeavor and the realization of his projects for Katanga.
